Great Falls Color Rotation Rationale

You may be asking yourselves...what is up with Great Falls and the color schedule?! Well, I wanted to take a moment to explain the color rotation rationale. In the past, we operated under a Monday through Friday creative arts schedule. Our creative arts are PE, art, music, & library/media.  Although it was easy to remember, it created an inequity with the amount of creative arts days each of our students experienced.

Because of our Monday holidays, early release Wednesdays, and vacation time, students were experiencing far fewer days of certain creative arts than others. It was difficult to provide consistent instruction when some students had more opportunities than their peers. The imbalance proved significant enough for us to devise a new rotation to ensure equitable, collective time within each creative realm: PE, art, music, & library/media.

With our new rotation, we have created an equal opportunity for all students to experience a more consistent number of creative arts days. It will take some getting used to, but referencing the calendar at this link Great Falls Family Calendar, which has the colors indicated for the entire school year, will certainly help.

I heard that some families have even created color wheels when keeping track of the schedules for multiple children. Very clever! I am having my own kids just wear sneakers EVERY day!

Please know that the new schedule greatly benefits our students and that’s what is most important! Thank you for your patience as we all adjust to the color rotation.
