Dear Great Falls Parents and Guardians,
The safety of your children is our priority. We take safety procedures and protocols very seriously at Great Falls and our staff and students are well prepared in case of an emergency. We hold regularly scheduled safety drills, including fire drills, playground drills, and lockdown drills. Following each drill, building staff evaluate the effectiveness of the drill to determine if any adjustments need to be made.
Today, students and staff practiced lockdown drill procedures. Lockdowns are used when an emergency occurs outside of the school and an evacuation is not possible or when there is an emergency inside and it is important for students to remain in their classrooms. Your child’s teacher appropriately prepared them ahead of the drill that was held today. We also have a cooperative partnership with local police and the fire department. These forces meet regularly with school administrators and take part in school safety drills like the one that was practiced today.
Our students did a great job with today’s drill. Practicing what to do in case of an emergency is a responsible and important part of our work. Providing your children with a safe place to learn is a top priority. Please visit http://www.gorhamschools.org/ Crisis_Plan.pdf for a complete description of the well-planned safety and security measures that the Gorham School Department has in place. As always, feel free to contact administrators with any questions or concerns at 222-1050.
Sincerely,
Becky Fortier, Great Falls Principal
Stacey Sawyer, Great Falls Assistant Principal
