Letter from the Principal - September 2nd

Wednesday, September 2nd

Hello Great Falls Families,

Great Falls has been working incredibly hard to get the school ready for our reopening in the Hybrid (Yellow) model. We are confident that the reopening is going to be a positive one. Kindergarten screening went amazing! We are all really looking forward to seeing our students! Before next week, we want to make sure that you have important information regarding the use of masks… and take this opportunity to share a fun Great Falls staff mask video with you! Click Here!

The MDOE provides a great overview on How to Select a Mask for Your Child. Students must wear personal, clean, well-maintained masks appropriate for the school environment. Face shields may be an alternative for those students with medical or behavioral challenges who are unable to wear masks/face coverings. Face shields worn in place of a face-covering must extend below the chin and back to the ears. A note from the primary care provider will be required for any staff/student who will be using a face shield.

Students must wear a face mask at all times across school spaces. Specifically, masks must be worn by all students when riding the school bus, when entering or exiting buildings, while traveling in hallways, in classrooms, and when moving about the school. Students should remain mindful not to unnecessarily touch masks except for removal for meals, snacks, and designated time outdoors. Students will be provided with breakaway lanyards to clip onto their face masks when the masks are not in use during eating and designated time outdoors.

Weather permitting, times to remove masks (other than breakfast, lunch, or designated snack times) will be built into the daily schedule by the classroom teacher. Removal of masks may occur outdoors if 6 feet of physical distancing can be maintained by all participants at all times. Times when masks will be removed include breakfast, lunch, snack, and, weather permitting, at least one additional time outdoors when 6 feet of physical distancing can be maintained by all participants at all times. Please be sure to pack an extra mask in your child’s backpack. We will always have extras on hand in case they are needed.

We have communicated with families the A and B assignments for on-campus learning with “A” attending on Mondays and Wednesdays and “B” attending on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays will be designated for virtual student support, intervention, and/or enrichment as needed along with staff development. The one change to this would be if a holiday falls on a Monday (like on 9/7). In that case, Group A attends school on campus on Friday.

Monday, September 7th - No School - Labor Day

Tuesday, September 8th - “B” Schedule Attends

Wednesday, September 9th - “A” Schedule Attends

Thursday, September 10th - “B” Schedule Attends

Friday, September 11th - “A” Schedule Attends

Hopefully, the 2020-2021 Elementary School Colored Calendar will help in your planning throughout the year. This calendar is marked with the “A” and “B” schedules as well as with the colors that will align with your child’s creative arts session for that particular day. Families of students that signed up for the remote learning option have received information from Mr. Choate, our remote learning coordinator, regarding a class schedule and Exact Path.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Please be sure to check out the Great Falls News frequently for important information. Please reach out if you have any questions. We are here to help!

Take care and be well.
